Types of Businesses that are Con Artist?
Q. Why do a lot of these companies like to rip people off in to believing stuff is rare or expensive. Even though diamonds are thought to be rare and specials, its nothing but a useless rock. First De Beers keeps a monopoly on the industry and then they keep a ton of them in warehouses and sells a little bit of them at a time and jack up the prices to make you think it is rare. The way they advertise, they trick women into thinking they are recieving something special. Look at how many people own them? Does it seem so rare and special now? The bottled water industry is a joke! They sell water for over a dollar and it only takes 2 to 3 cents in material, labor and resources to produce 1 bottle. Then they are actually worse for you than… [cont.]

Do you believe in the validity of chart analysis or is it all mambo jumbo and all a confidence trick?
Q. Those who make presentations on the subject are of course "predicting the past" and are always right ! But whenever I try it on current prices, I find that the lines can be drawn any way you like. What is your opinion?
Asked by Franco - Sat Aug 12 18:17:49 2006 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Several years ago, I gave several 'technical analysts' a group of stocks charts with the names and dates blanked out, and with the last 18 months data blanked out too. I asked them to give me buy or sell recommendations. Results were slightly worse than random. I wouldn't call it mumbo jumbo or a confidence trick, just self-delusion.

How to start trick skiing?
Q. I have been skiing for awhile and would like to start doing some tricks while skiing, as I am getting my first pair of twin tips soon. My friend usually makes a jump down at his house, but i am not planning on using my new skis. Are there any good tricks to start doing to get my confidence up and start getting into trick skiing. I can ski backwards ok but I could get better.
Asked by Jeff Q - Fri Dec 5 13:03:01 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would just start on little jumps and work your way up to medium ones: maybe ones that put you 4-6 ft off of the ground. then try a 180 spin by pirouetting your body and twisting to backwards, and land on a downhill patch of snow. its fine to crash a couple times trying this. then move into 360s. if you can do those then your basic non-spin trick would be a grab. reach down and grab your ski by your boot(its a good idea if you have poles to have the pole strap on). you can loop these into spins and then you will know some basic tricks. most importantly don't feel intimidated by anyone watching you. im 11 and i was pretty nervous but when you land one the critics will be very impressed and you wont be nervous anymore also try fun-boxes… [cont.]

Q. what's the trick to confidence? Are some people just born with it ?
Asked by thenemo999 - Mon Apr 7 15:00:49 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is a skill that can be learned as any other - not something that we are born with or otherwise. You must Believe in yourself. To do that you need to have something to believe in. You need a skill, talent or knowledge that allows you to know that you are good at something, like drawing or writing, racing or playing chess. Then, perhaps if you can accept yourself as worthy, you will become confident. Many people are intelligent, competent, wise, good looking and talented, yet they have no confidence because they don't believe that they are "worth it". They feel guilt about their behavior, their private thoughts, their past indiscretions and that fault cuts through their confidence. If you don't have confidence, you can build it but it… [cont.]

If there are ghosts, how come there are no dinosaur ghosts, ant ghosts, fish ghosts, mice ghosts etc...?
Q. Ghost Hunters is such a crock. I think that ghosts are only real to the person because it's the mind playing tricks on them. They want to see, so they do. Houdini tried to contact the dead and ending up unmasking those that claimed to talk to the dead as con artists and charlatans.

A. Strange use of this forum. Your question is rhetorical in that you already have an answer and have no real desire to find any alternative. You simply want to make your opinion know. Fine - you are right and have a nicely valid point to make... but you should be making it somewhere else. ;-)

How can I increase my confidence?
Q. What are some tricks you guys do to increase your confidence? Watch a movie with someone who is confident in it? Watch someone you know be confident?
Asked by Greg S - Mon Dec 18 21:16:34 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Start by really listening to your internal dialogue. Do you say negative things to yourself? eg (I'm stupid, I'm worthless.. ) If you do have negative self talk, you need to address each bad comment as it arises. When you say something mean to yourself, correct it immediately, out loud *if you can*. For instance, if you make a mistake and reflexively think "I always screw up", correct it immediately but thinking/saying that you sometimes make mistakes, but you are good at many things". It may seem lame, but it works over time. Low self esteem often has its roots in negative self talk.

Q. I have the skills but not the confidence and I'm nervous for the audition. It is a fun line- Benefit but I have no idea how to get someone to stop and sit in my chair. What should I say as they walk by someone that's not offensive but will do the trick??

A. Of course, always start with a smile and a how are you. :) Ask if they would like a "two minute perk me up??" or an "Instant eye lift??" These are two of Benefit's big traffic stopper's. Also, be real, and check out what they are wearing, hair color, eyes, etc. "What a beautiful top! I have the perfect shade of lip gloss to make it pop. How about a quick touch up?" Be confident, be sincere, and you'll be fine! Of course for every 5 people, only one may say yes, but keep a sense of humor...it's only lipstick!

A. just to let you know you could easily be paralyzed from doing that and be in a wheelchair the rest of your life. I guess it's fine to do it on the trampoline but to go off of the trampoline can paralyze you. One time me and my friend were climbing my rock wall in my garage when I was little and I fell back and fractured my skull and had a concusion. What you're doing is everybit as dangerous. Stuff like that can happen to anyone easily. DOn't doubt it. DON"T DO IT! Paralyzing Accidents happen mostly on trampolines (besides cars) Your concience was telling you that this was dangerous just like mine did before my concussion, I knew I could get hurt and didn't think it WOULD happen and it did!

A. This will take some practice, but will pay big dividends in the long run. First impressions are everything and you want to make the best. Work with a friend so they can observe you and critique your performance. 1 - shake hands firmly. 2 - look the person in the eye when you talk to them. 3 - keep your hands out of your pockets... better yet, learn how to gesture expressively. 4 - make it a point to remember the person's name and use it in conversation. 5 - don't slump or shuffle. 6 - directly face the person and stand tall. 7 - be an active listener - nod your head, respond with empathy. 8 - approach and get comfortable with people's circle of comfort (varies with culture, don't know exactly where you're from so can't recommend… [cont.]

People who know their legal stuff only!!! I sell items online and a customer?
Q. sent me fake travelers checks. I neively went to (Walmart my favorite store) and attempted to buy supplies for my babies. Anyway long story short I was almost arrested for having Counterfeit money in my posession. I felt like I was the victim because I was duped by some con-artist who ordered merchandise from me. Can I really be facing Criminal Charges? They want to charge me with having them in my posession. Can they? They told me that they were aware of the scam going on so why wouldn't they let me go free of charges? Can I beat this case? Has anyone else been convicted or tricked by a con artist on the web?
Asked by Dee Dee 24 - Mon Jun 4 00:41:03 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, you are really facing criminal charges because you were in possession of counterfeit currency. They can't let you go because anybody can say "oh, I sell stuff online and this is what they sent me." Ignorance of the law means nothing in a due process/"innocent until proven guilty" society. You have to prove in a court of law that you did not know that they were counterfeit and your online business. I do believe you can beat this though. Get a lawyer. I know they're expensive, but there is legal aid. Those lawyers aren't as great as the ones you can hire, so if you can afford it, invest in a good lawyer. I do have some advice for you though. You can, with your lawyer (I can't stress that part enough), talk to the prosecutor/DA to see… [cont.]

What would you say about confidence in trying new tricks?!?
Q. I have been skateboarding I think for about 2 or 3 weeks. When I want to learn a new trick I practice in the grass, then i take it to the streets. I don't have confidence even when I'm on the grass. I don't have any protective gear yet but still with the gear or not, I'm pretty nervous about falling and getting hurt. Any way into getting more confidence?!
Asked by Retroness_is_love@hotmail.com - Wed Jul 18 22:10:15 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. based on my experience so far, I feel that to fall/trip/hit by the deck while learning is a step closer to pulling off the trick. Fear prevents you or me to learn something new. Its like you want to try to ollie down a 3 set (stairs) , you'll be worried about speed, height of your ollie etc but once you ollie off the set, whether you land the trick or not, you'll have more confidence to try it again and again till you land it. I don't skate with protective gear too, so I get lots of bruises, cuts and whatevers when I bail or fall. At any case, try the trick once or twice, you'll get rid of the fear over time. Cheers and skate hard.

Does confidence come from having accomplishments or being popular?
Q. There are always exceptions, but lack of confidence sometimes comes from having something to hide or be ashamed about. You can try using psychological tricks, but if there's no substance behind it then if won't be effective. Like if you go to a job interview and your biggest accomplishment is watching tv, then it's going to be pretty hard to give good responses no matter how hard you try to convince yourself otherwise.
