Nouncomputers
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a set of instructions. Although mechanical examples of computers have existed through much of recorded human history, the first electronic computers were developed in the mid-20th century (1940–1945). These were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs). Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space. Simple computers are small enough to fit into a wristwatch, and can be powered by a watch battery. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as "computers". The embedded computers found in many devices from MP3 players to fighter aircraft and from toys to industrial robots are however the most numerous. The ability to store and execute lists of instructions called programs makes computers extremely versatile, distinguishing them from calculators. The Church–Turing thesis is a mathematical statement of this versatility: any computer with a certain minimum capability is, in principle, capable of performing the same tasks that any other computer can perform. Therefore computers ranging from a mobile phone to a supercomputer are all able to perform the same computational tasks, given enough time and storage capacity. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How to set up a computer network for three computers? Q. We have 3 computers at work and are trying to connect them all together so that one can be the main server and the other two can dump files into it. It is okay if they are all open because we are on a secure network. As long as we can dump files into each others computers. One of the computers is running Vista and the other two are running XP. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Asked by Nick S - Wed Feb 18 11:42:34 2009 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments A. They are only secure if NONE of them have Internet access. If this is so then the inexpensive, and very secure way is to network them together using network cables joining at a "Hub"(simply put - a dumb router) or a router. The router is easier, but if it has wireless, you will have to disable it(wireless) to prevent access from others. You may have to take some time to configure firewall and or antivirus software to allow access to all PC's on the network. You can actually turn off all firewall software since you will have a secure network. But I would advise leaving Anti-Virus running.(it can also prevent network access) Answered by Dtoolman - Wed Feb 18 12:00:50 2009 How do I set up printer sharing between two computers on the same dsl connection? How does printer sharing work? Asked by JERRY P - Thu Aug 2 23:45:22 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. printer sharing is done over a network. the software to create a simple network is built into Windows XP (and earlier versions). i'm not familiar with your hardware and so I don't know if it includes or functions as a switch ... you need a switch function to route info (print data) from one computer to the other. oh Answered by Spock (rhp) - Thu Aug 2 23:51:23 2007 How to block radioactive waves from computers?
Q. Nowadays , the usage of computers is so often that one may spent almost 6 hours in front of it, work , entertainment and all. And i heard that computers often spread radioactive waves that causes me headaches .. Is there a way to block it? And what can these waves cause? Asked by utopia - Thu Nov 8 03:29:24 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. My friend, if your computer is emitting radioactive waves then you got a serious problem, because this stuff can be stopped by using something like a lead wall. Usually computers are not that extreme and produce another kind of waves :) Use a modern LCD monitor (well, a thin one), make breaks while working and you are going to be fine.
