Looking for a good book about con artists?
Q. I am really into the Ocean's 11, 12, and 13 movies and I was looking for some good nonfiction books about con artists and stuff like that. Or even maybe like a biography of some great con artist. Or anything related to stuff in the movies. A link or exact title and author would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Con Artists?
Q. I'm in college, and I have a list of reasons about 2 pages long why I believe one of my engineering professors isn't an engineer. I remember a while back, they found somebody that pretended to be a member of the British Royal Family, and you always hear of fake doctors, so I know this isn't uncommon, but how do you find out for sure if someone's a fake? I can't think of a better word for it than that. How do you find out if someone isn't who they say they are? I need free resources I can start with to verify this guy's identity and professional credentials. Where do you start?

A. Casually ask where he h as studied and worked or applied his engineering knowledge. If he states so, check out the school website and look at the Alumni pages or call the school. There has to be a list of his 'credentials' someplace. You could be on to a real Frank Abignale Jr!

What should the US do to combat Nigerian con artists?
Q. Personally i haven't fallen victim to one but they have tried to get me multiple times through continuous emails and a few attempts scamming me on ebay (recently they tried twice to get me to ship a PS3 to a Nigerian address by sending me fake emails claiming that i had recieved a paypal payment - I'm sure they fooled alot of people with them). 20/20 recently did a study - and found over 100 million dollars had been successfully stolen over the last year. Should the US quit sending aid to Nigeria until their government takes a more serious approach? Does our government need stricter laws or more focus on enforcement? Should Americans simply quit buying Nigerian products or going there on vacation? What do you think is the best… [cont.]
Asked by Adam I - Thu Jul 26 16:10:58 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Its simple. Just have the FBI send a warning to all active email addresses in the US (they already have a list) warning people not to fall victim to this scam. I really don't feel sorry for any of the idiots who thought that they could send their personal information to some anonymous person in Nigeria and not get scammed by them.

A. First, consider what ages these now elderly women grew up. An age when women were taken care of instead of on an equal footing (more or less) with men. They trusted those around them and were often more isolated than children and young adults now. Also, as they age, their reasoning and thought process' slow down, that is they don't reason quite as quickly. It isn't only women, it is men also. This is simply a side effect of aging. Another "Also" is that the elderly are often somewhat isolated in their daily lives simply because they are elderly. What makes people to become con artists?
Q. I just don't understand.
Asked by Stefano - Thu Jan 22 18:23:50 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. High I.Q.s; there's no such thing as a stupid con artist... unless they get sloppy. Most con artists are intelligent, and a lot are female, therefore unsuspecting; the hollywood interpretation of a con artist as scary and rough looking can't be farther from the truth. Most con artists are also pyschopaths that have next to nothing for conscience. Alongside that, they also tend to be sycophants (chamelions).

A. There is really no way to report them, just delete the emails because it is obviously a scam. You are the owner and you get to set the terms that you will accept! Do not let anyone bully or scam you into doing something different.

Why do you believe that people who say they have Psychic Abilities are nothing but con artists?
Q. Not wanting to take an organizations test to prove abilities are real because they do not want the money, yet charge a lot in book stores for books, tarot readings etc. . .Isn't it possible that the reason no one takes them up on the tests is because the rules for the test are unrealistic, i.e. if they do not pass with a score of 100 then they are a fraud and will publicise it immediately, YET if they do pass the test with flying colors, it may or may not be publicised and they do not get all the money promised up front, maybe a small percentage. Would you take a test that no matter how well you do, you lose?

A. I'm not trying to support the claims of some, but if an individual had enough control over their gift to rally it on command and was put through rigorous testing, it's possible that, like other talents such as bicycle riding, would fail. Does that mean the individual is a fraud at riding a bike, for instance, because they fell? Likewise, science cannot confirm nor deny the causes of those things outside of our normal senses. An article I read a long time ago on research done to a practioner of out-of-body experience recorded about 66% accurate on objects in another room. I don't know about you, but 33% would be enough to raise my neck hair. Is the guy a fraud because he's right 2 out of 3 times? Who can say? But to answer your question,… [cont.]

A. Of the many millions of tourists that come to Thailand every year very few are actually victims of scams. Oh, they may pay too much for something they buy from a street vendor but most never are affected by scams. If something seems too good to be true it probably isn't! Some scams originate out of Khao San Road with long distance buses - so get your bus tickets from bus stations not travel agencies in the KSR. On buses keep your valuables with you and not in your checked in bag. If you don't know anything about gold or gems don't buy any!
